What is Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a neuropathic pain disorder that occurs predominately on one side the face when the trigeminal nerve has been impaired. The trigeminal nerve is responsible for feeling sensation throughout your face, however when the nerve has been compressed by a blood vessel, damaged due to an injury, or in some cases a brain tumor it distorts the messages sent to the brain.
The trigeminal nerve is the second largest nerve to leave the brainstem with the spinal cord being the largest, It is the largest of the 12 cranial nerves responsible for our basic functions such as talking, eating, facial movements and feeling.
Specialist throughout the medical industry have reported the pain as one of the worst known to man.
With the attacks of pain being bought on with such simple triggers, such as a light breeze from the wind, air-conditioning, or a fan. Brushing your teeth or hair, talking, eating or even a smile such a joyous gesture can cause so much pain.
Sufferers of this neural disease, are often confined to their homes and beds, forced to miss family events and unable to work due to the excruciating pain rendering you unable to talk, eat or think.
The fear of pain always predominantly robbing you from simple tasks like shopping and listening to music as the noise and vibration is unbearable
At this present time there is not a cure.
